Update on Ben

Yesterday, Ben went into Primary Children's Hospital for a surgery. The Dr was planning on removing a blockage and looking into possibly fixing his urethra. But, when they went in they found that both kidneys have reflux.(This means that instead of flushing down, his kidneys flush up.) For some reason, this did not show up on the VCUG test he had a month ago. So, on the 24th of this month, Ben will be having a surgery. He will be admitted and will be staying over night at the hospital.

Blast from the past -
Ben was first hospitalized in August 2007 with his left kidney having reflux. Since then he has had 4 or 5 UTI's causing 103 and 104 fevers. (This picture is from AUG 07 when Ben was in the Tripler pediatric unit.)

Present day -

Ben right before he was about to go in for surgery. Here is a picture (taken with camera phone) of Ben in post op yesterday. He is holding his new Optimus Prime toy. He has developed a love for Transformers, ever since he went to his friends Kael's Transformer birthday party. Also, it was so nice to have both Dan and I at the hospital with Ben. Our fabulous friend Heather watched Zach. We are so blessed with wonderful friends and family. On the way out, Ben was able to ride in a fun red wagon and drink his root beer slushie.
Hopefully the surgery on the 24th will be the end of Ben's kidney issues and hospital stays. It has to be the hardest thing to see your child in pain. But, at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake, Benjamin has received the best care we could ever hope for. We love you Benji! Let the spoiling continue!
