THE TRAVELING GARDNERS

As I was giving Ben and Zach a bubble bath tonight, I was overcome with a feeling of sadness for the children in Haiti. The innocent victims that do not understand this devastation. It is heartbreaking. I looked at my clean boys in the warm water. They were giggling and playing with their bath toys. I thought about water. Clean and fresh water. Something we take for granted. Something that people of Haiti do not have enough of. It really made me think of necessities versus wants. We have donated a small amount of money that we could to our church's Humanitarian Services . I sent the text that provides a small donation to the Red Cross . And still it doesn't seem like enough. Do any of you feel the same way? Watching the news and images of the Haitian people, has seriously been tugging on my heart strings. There is a lot going on today in the world. The elections were yesterday. And I am sad to say that I didn't vote. I am not registered in Hawaii. And I couldn't figure out who to contact, in order to vote through an absentee ballot. But, all is done now. For now, in latest news the Democrats have taken the house of representatives. And it looks like they will also take congress. But the biggest news in the US is Donald Rumsfeld (our secretary of defense) has been replaced by a man named Robert Gates. Being a military spouse, I am much more interested in politics then before. And, I don't usually "blog" about politics. But, I just wonder how this will change the way that the war is being handled. I myself hope for a safe and quick return of the troops in Iraq. I am grateful and support the troops. And it may sound selfish, but I pray that Dan doesn't have to go to the middle east.
