Our adventure never ends....even on vacation....

So for the past 3 weeks we have been on the road enjoying visiting with family in Arizona and California. I blogged about the wonderful date night that Dan and I had in Arizona. It was really great. Then last night we had another date here in San Diego. (Thank you Grandma Reva and Grandpa Tom!!) It was like a dream night. We soon found out it was going a little too well and was too good to be true. Because, later that night came craziness. But first let me tell you about our really great night.

*First my Mom gives us free passes to a local theatre here next to her house. We got to our movie early. We were basically the only ones in the theatre and had first pick of seats. The movie was really suspenseful and not a total bomb.*The restaurant where we had dinner got us right in. (The host joked around and said "don't say I never did anything for you.") And we were seated as soon as we walked in the door. Then, our food was delicious and served immediately with practically no wait. **And to top it off, after our waitress discovered that Dan was deploying, she brought us a piece of complimentary famous mudd pie with two candles in it. When we asked why? She responded and said that it was just for our date night, and also because Dan was deploying. I teared up and said thank you. And then she started crying. It was a very sweet moment. * And then our last stop for the night was checking out a local scrapbook store. We bought a few military pages for Dan's deployment and some road trip scrapbooking items. ***After arriving back at my Mom and Tom's we were told Ben was an angel and was sound asleep.

Sad to say that is where the calm ended and the storm began.........

2am - I wake up with horrible food poisoining. I end up falling asleep downstairs on the couch next to the bathroom.

3:30 am - My step dad wakes me up saying he is going to pick up my step brother Ricky from his apartment. His apt was set on fire by some arsonist that has still not been found. He and his roomates are safe. But it was very scary. They had lit the front door on fire and had made it so the door could not be opened. My step brother just happen to smell smoke and break through the front window. At this point it is possible that it was partly a hate crime because my step brothers roomies are middle eastern and black. But it is totally unknown right now. So Ricky and one of his his roomie's Amine is back here at the parents house staying with us.

8:00 pm tonight - We are literally walking upstairs to put Ben down to sleep when the door bell rings. My Mom's neighbors have come to tell us that the chimney of our house is shooting flames out the top, and they have called 911. (Pause to Leah's thoughts - SERIOUSLY?!?!?!) So what had basically happened is that my Mom needed to chimney sweep her fireplace and had not done it yet. Because of this, and Dan stacking the wood a little too high....the smoke in the chimney ignited and caused flames to shoot out. - After about 10 firemen went through my Mom's house with a thermal reading machine and checked out the roof...and put out the fire in the fireplace..........they figured out everything was good.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more peaceful with church, Superbowl, and Dan's good bye party with family.

Can I just breathe a huge sigh of relief...............ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh
and yes....I have pictures of all this...... ;)

AAAAhhh!!!! Well, at least you can't ever say nothing ever happens to you! Hope everything's much smother for a while though. And your brother (or was it step?)'s scary wakeup call. Sounds like he was being protected... as were you all. I vote no more fires for a while!! Glad everyone's safe, though.

Oh Leah! I'm so sorry! I hope the rest of your vacation goes a little bit better for you. When are you and the boys going to be back in Utah?! We need to get together and have a game night before Dan deploys!
