Back on the mainland - First stop: San Diego - September 2007

Our first stop back to the mainland was going to San Diego. Our car was shipped to the San Diego dock. So we went and picked up our car and spent time with family and friends. Our first pictures are of my Mom's 50th birthday celebration at Dicks Last resort restaurant.

Happy Birthday Grandma Reva!

Celebration and party time!

Put the lime in the coconut......

Great Grandma Sue and Ben have a nice little conversation. And Dan enjoys his food.

Ben eats his first onion ring. Smile Grandma Reva!

Grandma Sue giving Ben high 5!

The whole gang in front of the restaurant!

Me, my momma and a hostess pose for a pic. And, Uncle Daniel with Ben the Padres fan!

One day while at my Mom's house, Ben decided to attempt to sneak through the stairs

An afternoon with Grandma Sue visiting Papa Jr's grave stone marker. I miss him so much.

On another day we went up to Uncle Billy's and Bonnie's house up in Julian. We are so happy that their house was safe from the fire. They were evacuated 3 times this past year. So happy their house is still standing. And it was a great day for a bb que.

When we first arrived my Mom and brother were waiting anxiously to spoil Ben with goodies. Here they are giving him some sort of sugary treat.

4 Generations and Grandma Sue posing with her lunch.

Watching a little foosball in the man cave.

How many men does it take to change the oil?

Grandma and Ben petting the horses. And Ben and I trying not to get to close to the horse.

Ben escaped out the door following Grandma Sue.

But Ben ran right past Grandma Sue going straight for the horses.Ben didn't get away.
He fell on his tushy. Nice get away Ben! And also, Ben with Daddy and Grandma Reva looking at the view of Julian.

Uncle Billy and Ben feeding the horses

My Mom and Daniel cleaning up Grandma Sue's car.

Grandma Reva and Grandpa Tom

Little sister and big brother - My mom and Billy

While Dan and Tom were discussing football, I caught Grandma Sue smiling on camera. Very rare!

We went to SEA WORLD to celebrate my Mom's birthday and to enjoy one of our military perks! Thanks to Sea World for our military passes - Dan, Ben, and I were free. And we got so lucky at the front gate. We passed a couple visiting from Ireland who had an extra ticket. They gave it to my Mom! So we all got to go to Sea World for free! I think it was my Mom's red hair. It's the luck of the Irish!

Daddy and Ben sitting in the soak zone

My Mom and I ran when we saw the wave of water coming towards us!

"Mommy, Can I have an aquarium like this?"

The shark encounter EEK.....he looks scary.....

Ben showed both his military pride and Padres pride. Thank you Grandpa Tom for my military Padres cap.
We got this cool shot of the dolphin show ......and que the dolphins.....
It was a hot day. Ben drank plenty of water.....and then some....
By the time we got to the flamingos, we switched Ben into a rash guard top. It was water proof. The perfect outfit since he was pouring water on himself.

Kisses for daddy

We didn't realize how much Ben would love the flamingos.......he seriously did not want to leave.

And then Ben tickled the little monkey so he would let go!

Ben only has eyes for Mommy

And then it was off to RL Stines Haunted Lighthouse 3D show.
My Mom and I are too cool for school.

Daddy looking super cool in his 3D glasses

Ben had fun with the show. Especially when the water sprayed us from the seat in front of us.
We were celebrating my Mom's 50th birthday. And she always wanted a tattoo for her 50th. So while at Sea World, her and I got matching tats. ;)
It tickled when they sprayed it on.
The final product - Cheetah Girls! We each got matching paw prints.
Off to the gift shop - Grandma Reva had fun with the puppets.
Ben just enjoyed some quiet time. He was out cold the whole time we were in the shop.
It was good that Ben slept. Daddy was making a special present for Ben.

Have you heard of Build a Bear workshop store? They had a mini one at SeaWorld. Dan made Ben a penguin. He was dressed in a flight suit like Papa Jr used to wear. And we named him Bubba the penguin. And we all recorded a special message for Ben to play when you press his arm.
Daddy dressing Bubba at the "dressing table".
The final product!

Grandma testing out the penguins flying ability.
After the gift shop, Ben woke up and it was off to the aquarium. Big Fish catfish intrigued Ben.
Then off to the penguin exhibit. One of my favorites!
And don't forget the Artcic Circle ride! And the Polar Bears!! I LOVE Polar Bears! And off to another ride. The Atlantis water ride. Ben had to sit this one out. So, we all took turns riding and watching Ben. Ben had fun driving his wheel on the stroller. Daddy and Grandma Reva are in the front seat with their arms raised. Hi Daddy! We had so much fun. Ben was such a good boy that day.
I asked Ben how old he was and he put up 1 finger and said 1!!!!!
And what is the perfect ending to a great day at Sea World? Mexican food for dinner!!!! Grandma Reva and Ben enjoying a banana in the back seat waiting for the food.

That's the end of our happy Shamu day!

For one last San Diuego good bye we met our friends and family at a restaurant and took lots of pictures. First up - Ben looking super cool in Ian's shades.

The gang of little ones. Ben, Eva, and Brianna.
The Cross family. :)

The Traveling Gardners

Grandma Sue and Daniel

It's hard to believe that the 4 of us have been best buds since grade school and high school!

The whole gang (minus Gma Sue) after a yummy dinner.

Brianna going in for a good bye smooch. Ben wasn't so sure about all this lovin at first. Ben was all smiles after his first kiss. ;) And Eva in the background was a little bit jealous of her man getting kisses. Right before driving off, Uncle Daniel and Dan helped get Ben into his pjs for the long drive ahead of us to Utah. But first Ben said bye to Uncle Daniel and stole his Chargers hat.

Red neck style dressing room.

Good bye kisses to Uncle Daniel

Then we drove the whole night through to Utah! Here we come Utah!

Your photo history is so much fun! Don't you just love being able to record your memories in such a fantastic way? Way to go on your excellent blogging. It seems as if Ben is SUCH an easy going little guy and can be towed around just about anywhere. That is SO NICE!!

Leah! I love all of your pictures from Sea World! It makes me so homesick. I can't wait until Peter is old enough, I know he would love it! I can't believe Dan and Ben sat in the very front row of the soak zone! ha ha. Looks like a lot of fun. P.S. The penguins are my favorite too. They are too cute for words!
